N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) might just be an antidote to the gambling crisis.

Multiple studies looking at its effect on gambling addiction, this one below showed NAC: ◆ Reduced pathological gambling scores (by nearly 50%) ◆ Reduced urges / thoughts of gambling ◆ Improved depression ◆ Reduced anxiety ◆ Reduced money lost due to gambling (by more than 50%)

This is due to its ability to lower extracellular glutamate in the nucleus accumbens in the brain - often elevated and drives compulsion in addiction.
