50% of people are estimated to have this condition by 2050.

Bright sunlight helps the eyes produce more dopamine, which restricts the excessive growth of the eye - the cause of nearsightedness.

Probably also might matter that blue light can be directly toxic to the retinal cells yet other wavelengths in the sun are protective for them.
